    • Business as Usual March 12th 2018

      This time, my lack of writing has less to do with being hectic and more to do with a lack of substance. My life is fairly normal: ascertain that the shop is running at full capacity, banter with my regulars and make sure that their orders are being fulfilled, and make sure my own needs are met. I haven't seen a few of my friends in a good while, though I am sure they are well.
      I would be remiss if I didn't mention my own homesickness. I'm resolute in my reasoning for leaving and my need to prove myself on my own merit, but perhaps I should have staggered the transition a bit. Going from a full, raucous home to a solitary life was far more distressing to my emotional wellbeing than I could ever have expected.
      Of course, I am not always alone. My most frequent companion is Master Tarquinne Lawson. We brunch together, or sometimes unexpectedly run into each other, at least once weekly and catch up. He has had a very stressful go of it in recent months and I wish him clarity in the future. I recently got to see his new home (which is lovely), and his animal companion Wight has grown quite large since last I saw him!
      I also recently met Master Niveus' father and caught up with him. Though I have recently heard that he was victim of theft and am quite worried. A visit needs to occur soon.
      The shop-cat, Rhaedyn, has quite settled in. It is nice to have my own animal companion, to whom I can turn at lonely moments and rejoice that I do have at least one creature that can stand my constant companionship. He particularly enjoys the meat offerings I give him every other day. If I miss a day, I will find that he has knocked many instruments off of my desk. Never the ones that could be damaged, just the ones that it is annoying to have to pick up ere I step on them and destroy them.
      Today I have a brunch meeting with Master Quinne at the Tea Cozy. I'm quite excited. I do miss tea, and it will be good to see his face once again.

    • Long time, no write. November 28th 2017

      Life has been so hectic lately, I haven't had the chance to write anything down. But I did it!! I have officially been selected as the Master of Lore within the Merchant's Guild. I properly own the bookshop and have plans to catalog all of the island's plants (to start). Now I need only find a guide for the coming spring to take me around the isle... I'm thinking a two-month journey. I would also need to find someone to take over the shoppe while I'm gone... Definitely not a light decision to make! But I'm a Master Merchant now, I think I can handle it.

    • So many changes October 17th 2017

      I have just returned from an extended stay in the infirmary. It appears there's pixies migrating through the area, and a brush with one has catastrophic effects. For me, it was a heightened sensitivity to hearing. My heartbeat sounded like someone banging on a wall right near me. A single voice sounded as though 15 individuals were screaming the words into my ears simultaneously. It was... painful. Excruciatingly painful. The pain drove me to madness. A maddening blur.

      I remember my friend Misty dismantling the clock. I remember a strange man who seemed familiar taking me to the infirmary. I remember a dream of someone kind and alluring bringing me an apple; or was it that we talked in the rain? I cannot quite remember.

      Lord Dralt visited me yesterday, not only assuring me that my expenses would be taken care of by the guild, but also enlightening me to the supernatural nature of some of the city's residents, himself included. I had thought such things to be fanciful fictions, or plays on words, but it is actually real. Actual monsters walk the streets. However, they are not the monsters that literature paints them out to be; they are members of the society, no different than any other. This is in line with what I would have expected. It is intriguing and I wish to know more.

      I cannot quite walk yet. A ruptured eardrum can sometimes affect your balance, and this has occurred with me. I have a cane borrowed from the infirmary until I can walk unassisted. I am quite eager to get back to work, and be free to come and go as I please. I wish to visit Master Niveus and the conservatory.

      Flawless victory
      And by flawless, I mean only slightly flawed. Okay, downright imperfect. But a victory! My interview with the Lord of the Merchant's Guild has passed and I now am the proud owner of Thoth's Quill. I'm not sure what I did to impress him; not only did he not receive a recommendation, but he wouldn't look at my Mercantile License from Withywoods. I am given a one month probationary period in which I must not only prove myself an adequate tenant of the shop but also produce some master work. In a month! A near impossible task, and I'm going to do it!!!

      In an off-note, I look forward to future meetings with Lord Dralt. He seems very stiff, as though he's never known a moment of joy in his life. A most curious individual.

      This will be my last night in the Gull's Head. Tomorrow, I make my way to my new home. I have much to do.

    • A Response! October 4th 2017

      I have received a response from the Merchant's Guild! They have accepted my application and wish to set up an appointment to discuss my inquiry for the bookshop. I am one step closer!! I dare not write to my family, for it would not do to get their hopes up if I do not become the owner. Tomorrow I shall go to set up an appointment.

      Today I went into the bookstore (it was unlocked!) and found a tome on the flora of the Isle of Etla. Some of the flowers within the Conservatory are native specimens, but others appear to be exotic florals. To my delight, I recognize the Trillium species as one that grew in the mountains just North of Withywoods. Astounding that, even so far away from home, one can find something familiar.
